NABH and NABL Accreditation: A Simple Guide for Hospitals and Laboratories

NABH and NABL Explained

NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers) accredits hospitals, clinics, dental centres and AYUSH facilities in India. NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredits testing, calibration and medical laboratories.

What Each Accreditation Covers

  • NABH: patient safety, clinical governance, infection control, medical records, staff competence and grievance handling.
  • NABL: technical competence of laboratories — equipment calibration, quality control, testing procedures and report accuracy.
  • Medical laboratories additionally follow the ISO 15189 standard, and testing laboratories follow ISO/IEC 17025.
